You’ve probably heard me say before that one of my favorite places to go here in Romania is the piaţa (pee-yatza) or marketplace. It is a cultural norm and has been for centuries. There are actually several piaţas in a city the size of Arad, but here are some pictures of the one I normally go to: Piaţa Mica.
I usually walk to the piaţa with my little cart and fill it up with seasonally fresh things!
While there are nearly always certain produce items available such as tomatoes, carrots, onions and potatoes, much of what is sold there is SEASONAL. For example, in the month of May, the strawberries were beautiful and boundless! Now it is cherry season, so cherries are everywhere! Raspberries too!
The bad news is that the season doesn’t last very long, so in a couple of weeks, these luscious things will be gone. However, the good news is that they will be replaced by other yummy things like watermelon, peaches and corn! I’m sorry if my pictures and descriptions are making your mouth water, but I DO have a point here other than making you jealous of my little marketplace! 🙂
I was thinking the other day about the verses in Psalm 1 which describe a blessed man. A person who delights in God’s law is described as a well watered tree “….which produces fruit in its season.” And Ecclesiastes 3 tells us that “there is a time and a season for everything under heaven.”
As much as I’d love for a “season” of certain produce to stick around awhile, the seasons come and go as God intends.
There are seasons of life too — some that we want to continue on and others that we can’t wait to end. However, each season has its place and purpose, and I hope to savor the goodness in each one — even if the goodness is difficult to find. And BLESSING is an added bonus!
What season of life are you in right now? Are you savoring the goodness that this particular season has to offer?
Beautiful thoughts and so very true. I am in a very blessed and peaceful season right now and I’m savoring the sweetness.
